Memories of Lake Geneva
For over 50 years Lake Geneva, WI was the home for the encampment offering families a week of spiritual and physical renewal. We've collected many written memories from attendees. Here are their thoughts...
I've been here 3 times over your many years. My first time was about ten years ago when my husband, Ernie, was still alive. I remember. with his cane, his reluctance over the hill and vale walking. He did so enjoy the lessons and fellowship that the treks were all OK. He prided himself on keeping the pace. He realyed later that of our many visits that summer this was his favorite. It taxed him healthwise, but nourished him so spiritually. From his Lutheran background he saw Churches of Christ in a new light. Praise god! Much to our delight and surprise, two of our winter residents from Ft. Meyers, FL were also here. Howard and Dorothy Price from Peoria, IL were a joy to be with! It was Howard's last year there. His health declined rapidly and now Dorothy's has also. Both did not return, but Howard has gone on to a far better camp and Dorothy longs to join him. It was also the first time I met Portia! Hmm..."Go Light Your World" was in the making then.Ah...the memories!
This is the 3rd year I've been with you -- never in succession. It's been four years since I was here last -- six years before that.
My greatest thrill at being here is seeing multi-generational Christian familoies interacting, growing and loving our Lord together. Extended families coming and joining in and showing to all what agape love and true living Chritianity is all about. Andy and Texanne as they celebrate 55 years this Friday, August 11, 2006. The balfours and how they grow together having these model teen/adult sons who love being with family. Wow! It's such a blessing being with these God-centered homes. If all the world could see how it could be, what a world we'd have. Thanks for makiing a widow newcomer so welcome and so loved!
Memories The Lighter Side
Those bee-bee showers in Lakefront not only leave lasting memories but if allowed to hit on sensitive body parts -- lasting impressions. All 3 of my years I've been in said Villa residences and which one doesn't matter. Talk about a wake-up -- this is a 5 item alarm fire call. This third year I did come up with a formula -- 1 bath mat and one towel doubled before before that body part was hit by bee-bee shower -- but, boy do those towels get heavy -- makes for short sweet showers and water conservation. What a shame some of ya'll have new facilities and can't enjoy this invigoration.
Memories The Lighter Side
Bet no one else did this one and yet it is Lake Geneva. Dana is one of the most out-going, effervescent, ininhibited souls it has been my pleasure to meet. God bless us to have some of her quality in our lives. I was struck by this as she did her construction worker demo in our final talent show. I'm inhibited at times about what my gifts are, but not Dana. I can only imagine how her grocery carryout customers enjoy her! She meets no stranger -- not even me, her next door roomate that last year. But her and Joe sharing mutual bathroom in long ago era -- that I have to think on! God bless Dana and all like her!
